Celebrating OFIC’s Student Scholars
OFIC congratulates the Class of 2020 for the recent graduation! For many of these students, their achievement was made possible by the support of generous donors for the Ohio Scholars Program® through OFIC.
Today we share the thoughts from one of our Class of 2020 OFIC scholars who achieved her dream of a bachelor’s degree. Jengila Sengsourichanh is a first-generation college graduate from Ohio Dominican University and has since continued her graduate studies in exercise science in the fall of 2020. Jengila was chosen to be an AT&T Ohio Scholar for her final senior year. In the months prior to her graduation (Fall 2019), Jengila wrote a message of appreciation for the scholarship she was awarded.
Jengila’s Story
This scholarship towards my education has truly been a blessing to my family and me. We were worried how I would manage to pay my tuition these past couple of semesters because it became such a big burden. I even considered leaving for an uncertain amount of time to work and save up enough to make payments, so when I realized that I have been granted a scholarship from you again, I am truly thankful. Every time I think of this scholarship, I can’t help but smile because it means I am one step closer to graduating. I sincerely thank you so much for this chance.
I chose to further my educational career at Ohio Dominican University because I enjoy the attraction of small class sizes. This gives me a chance of having a close relationship with my professors and classmates. There are many events that focuses on providing aid to others and I find that extremely endearing because it gives me a chance to give back. Everyone on this campus have all been incredibly helpful in providing information to help me understand what and how I can move further towards the goals I’ve set myself. And this is one of the biggest reasons I truly treasure my time at this campus.
Actually, this upcoming spring is when I will be graduating with a Bachelor’s in Exercise Science and this would not have been possible without you. I am ecstatic and a bit nervous to see where my future will lead to but that’s the beautiful part of life, the unknowing. I will definitely go on to achieve a master’s degree but even when I accomplish that goal, I will continue to learn and never forget the help that brought me to that moment in life. So, I would like to thank you again for this wonderful opportunity, I will remember this chance always.
Thank you so much, Jengila Sengsourichanh Ohio Dominican University
