National Interstate Insurance - Donor Spotlight

Briefly share how OFIC aligns with National Interstate’s philanthropic priorities.

Our continued investment in OFIC has allowed us to increase our talent pipeline and reach more students. Last year, we worked with OFIC to host over 50 students from Northeast Ohio, including schools such as Ashland University, Baldwin Wallace University, Defiance College, Hiram College, John Carroll University, Marietta College, Oberlin University, Tiffin University, The College of Wooster, and University of Mount Union. During this on-site event, students were on our corporate campus to spend time with members of our senior leadership and learn how to own their careers, be a candidate who stands out and begin networking with professionals in their areas of study.

Share reasons why more companies should consider an investment in scholarships through OFIC.

OFIC is an organization that helps to connect companies with colleges in a unique way. There is true collaboration in helping to bring together students with opportunities and companies with sponsorships. This allows for the continued investment in the future of students, creating paths to relationship building and career opportunities in a meaningful way.

As corporate Ohio moves forward with social distancing guidelines, how is your company continuing to engage college students? Do you have any innovative strategies that you are implementing?

We have developed a graduate development program, called Ignition, which immerses recent college graduates into the insurance world with a four week deep dive of industry knowledge, history and overview of National Interstate and how the business works together, and how their role fits into the larger picture. This graduate development program is a platform for new graduates to acclimate to the workforce, learn the industry and their role, allowing them to have a greater foundation to leverage through their career. The next cohort of this program will take place throughout the month of June and has been adapted to be delivered through online instruction and self-directed work.

National Interstate is dedicated to finding top talent within Northeast Ohio and growing our community relationships to increase the awareness of the insurance industry, helping to solve for the 30,000 job openings the industry will face by the year 2025. We continue to grow talent and help create career paths for emerging talent from universities and dedicated programs. We work with colleges and universities throughout Ohio and in association with OFIC. For upcoming semesters, we have shifted to a virtual format to facilitate in classrooms, complete mock interviews and collaborate on ways to educate students with opportunities within the insurance industry and for their future.
