POLAND, OHIO RESIDENT, RECIPIENT OF SCHOLARSHIP FROM BRENNER FOUNDATION, PURSUING BIOLOGY DEGREE AT KENYON COLLEGE

Terrence Johnson, from Poland, Ohio is a senior at Kenyon College majoring in Biology.  He is the recipient, for the fourth year, of a scholarship from the Mary Ann and Raymond Brenner Foundation through The Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges’ Ohio Scholars Program.

Terrence wrote to his scholarship donor that he had wanted to attend a college with a superior reputation for placement in graduate school in the sciences and that Kenyon met that requirement perfectly.  He stated, however, that coming from a single-income family made attending such a prestigious school out of his reach.  “I would like to convey my deepest gratitude to the Mary Ann & Raymond Brenner Foundation,” Terrence wrote this year, “for making my education at Kenyon a reality”.

Working toward graduating with distinction in his chosen field, Terrence plans to eventually obtain a doctorate degree in physical therapy.  He has had the opportunity while at Kenyon to volunteer at several physical therapy clinics, which he feels has provided him with valuable experience for that journey.  Terrence’s concern for achieving connections with people and assisting them to improve their personal well-being is also evident in his community service through Kenyon student organizations.  “Some close friends and I”, he tells his donor, “were able to spend a week in New Orleans helping with restoration efforts.  “I was most thankful for the opportunity to help others in a direct fashion.”

Terrence is deeply grateful for the financial assistance that made his Kenyon education possible and believes that it is providing him with the necessary skills for his chosen profession and preparing him for the mental challenges that he will face throughout life.
